| Birth: | Nov. 26, 1847 | | Death: | Oct. 13, 1928 |  Russian Monarch. Born as Princess Dagmar of Denmark, her parents were King Christian IX and Queen Louise von Hessen-Kassel. In 1866 she married Grand-Prince Alexander Alexandrovitsch of Russia, who ascended the throne in 1881 as Tsar Alexander III of Russia. She is the mother of the last Tsar of Russia, Nicholas II. During the revolution in 1918 her family was butchered by Bolsheviks. The Empress managed to escape from Crimea on a British warship. After a short stay in Britain at her sister, Queen Alexandra, she returned to her native Denmark, where she died 10 years after the revolution. Plans for her reburial in the Peter and Paul Fortress in St. Petersburg, next to her husband, are under way. (bio by: Benny Chordt Hansen)
