Ronald A (Hoopie) Hoopingarner passed away at his home on July 20, 2012, as a result of the massive stroke he suffered in 2002.
Ronald was born January 6, 1943, in Hillsdale to Alton C. and Dorothy (Murphy) Hoopingarner.
He married Diann Raymond at the Free Methodist Church in Coldwater on March 21, 1970.
Ron attended Allen and Quincy schools before joining the Air Force in 1962. During his Air Force years, while stationed in Texas, Ron was 'adopted' by the McCarthy and Swoboda families and made friendships that lasted throughout his lifetime.
After honorable discharge from the service he attended Jackson Community College, before going to work for General Telephone Co. in Coldwater. Hoopie retired from the phone company in 1996, with 30 years of service.
After retirement he was associated with Centennial Wireless for a short time.
Ron will be remembered for his great sense of humor.
He delighted in his grandsons, was a longtime U of M and Detroit fan and was an avid golfer and card player for many years.
In later years he enjoyed photography but his true 'hobby' was just being with people. and talking.
Ron's three sisters are all very talented singers and he received much enjoyment and later, comfort, from listening to them sing.
He especially enjoyed listening to the songs produced by his sister Diana and her husband John through their music ministry.
Hoopie was a member of the Quincy American Legion and the Coldwater Moose Clubs, past member of the Eagles, Elks and Coldwater Country Clubs.
Ron is survived by his wife, Diann, daughter Ronda, son Mark, grandsons, 'adopted' daughter, sisters, Norma, Diana and Cynthia, brothers-in-law, Bruce, Larry, and David, sisters-in-law, Denise and Lois.
He also leaves 9 nephews, 5 nieces, 6 great nieces, and 5 great nephews.
Ron was preceded in death by his father in 1976 and his mother in 1988.
Interment of ashes to follow at South Gilead Hoopingarner Cemetery.
