Danish Monarch. He regained as King of Denmark from 1848 to 1863. His parents, King Christian VIII and Princess Charlotte Friederike von Mecklenburg-Schwerin, divorced in 1810 when Frederik was 1 year old, and his mother was banned from the child. Frederik VII was married 3 times. His 1st marriage was in 1828 with Princess Wilhelmine of Denmark, the daughter of King Frederik VI. They were divorced in 1837 due to personal differences. Wilhelmine later became married to Duke Carl of Glücksborg, the brother of King Christian IX. The King’s second marriage was in 1841 to Princess Mariane of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. She divorced him in 1846 because she could not accept his connection to the ballet-dancer Louise Rasmussen, whom he made his third wife in a morganatic marriage in 1850. She was then nobled with the title Countess Danner. Frederik VII was not interested in becoming an absolute monarch when he became King in 1848, and a year later he signed a new constitution, that transformed Denmark into the constitutional monarchy that still exists. He was a very popular king, and devoted a lot of his spare time to his passion for archeology. During the first 3 years of his reign Denmark was at war with the rebellious duchies of Schleswig-Holstein, who were supported by the kingdom of Prussia and the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
