Pedro "El Coronel" Pino, age 81, a resident of Los Lunas, NM, passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2009.
Pedro was a member of the Christian Faith. Pedro proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Force and was a veteran of World War II.
Pedro was a follower of New Mexico Highlands Cowboys and University of New Mexico men and women's athletics. Pedro was also a great fan of the LA Dodgers, Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics and Green Bay Packers. Pedro enjoyed returning to Spain to research his family roots. Pedro was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Pedro was preceded in death by his father, Cristobal C. Pino in 1992, his mother, Rosita Montoya Pino in 2003 and brother, Leo Pino .
Pedro is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Vera Baca Pino, three sons, Juan, Carlos and Pete, daughter-in-law, Patricia Pino, three grandsons, Chris, Marc and Scott, five brothers, Mike Pino and his wife, Emily, Chris Pino and his wife, Billy Rae, Jake Pino and his wife, Ryan, Bill Pino and his wife, June and Lorenzo Pino and his wife, Anna, one sister, Mercedes and her husband, Pat Patterson and his mother-in-law, Jessie Baca. Pedro is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews.
Pedro will also be missed by countless former students, players, colleagues and community members.
All services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, beginning with a viewing on Monday, September 21, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A final visitation will be held at on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. with Father Stephen Schultz presiding. Interment will follow at the Bosque Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chris Pino, Jake Pino, Lorenzo Pino, Christopher Pino, Marc Pino and Scott Pino. Honorary pallbearers will be Pat Patterson and Phil Pino.
The family requests donations be made in Pedro's name to the Children's Cancer Research Center,7801 E. Bush Lake Rd., Suite 130, Minneapolis, MN, 55439-3152.
