Jack Thomas Barraclough, 84, of Idaho Falls, passed away Tuesday, July, 24, 2012 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. He suffered a massive stroke earlier in the month.
He was born September 15, 1927 in Salt Lake City, Utah. His parents were Laveral Thomson and Theodore Barraclough. As a child, his family moved to Boise, where he attended junior high and high school.
Jack participated in ROTC program in high school and joined the United States Navy at the age of 17. He served as a Gunner in WWII. Jack began college at Boise Junior College, (currently BSU). He finished his degree in Hydrology from the University of Idaho in Moscow, while playing football and House Manager for Sigma Nu.
Jack married Dorothy Jensen and moved to Pensacola, Florida, where he worked for the US Geological Survey as a Hydrology technician. Their children are Denise, Jacqueline and Bruce. Jack was the volunteer Fire Chief for Santa Rosa Island Fire Department near Pensacola. He and Dorothy were active in the Kiwanis and Elk Clubs. They loved the beach, fishing, and the weather.
In 1963, Jack received a promotion to be the Project Chief Hydrologist in Idaho. He began work at the AEC (currently INL) for the US Geological Survey. He loved the outdoors and spent his spare time fishing, hunting, and camping. He was a charter member of the Sportsman's Club in Idaho Falls and built his own canoe(that even floated).
Jack married Betty Howell in 1973, becoming the father for Betty's five children. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple in 1975 and they had one son, Jared. Jack and Betty spent eight beautiful years together building a family until Betty passed away in 1981. Jack continued as father for her children.
Jack met Betty's good friend, Elaine Dalby, and married her later that year in the Idaho Falls Temple. In 1983, Jack retired from the US Geological Survey after 33 years. He quickly decided retirement wasn't for him and went to work for EG&G as Hydrology consultant.
In 1992, he ran and won district 33 House Chair for Idaho State Legislature. He served 14 years in the legislature. Jack served on Environment, Resources, Education and J-Fac committees. He was the chairman of Resources and Conservation and also Education Committee. As Education Chairman, he helped implement the policy changes that enabled the growth of Charter Schools in Idaho.
Jack loved to give service. He held many callings for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was President of the board of Eastern Idaho Credit Union for many years and was currently active as a board member for Development Workshop.
Jack loved to travel and experienced many countries cultures with Elaine before she passed in 2009. He visited Yellowstone Park yearly in June to camp, fish and spend time with family. He was active as a grandfather and tried to make every event memorable. He loved his family and will be deeply missed.

Brother, Hal Barraclough of Cupertino, CA;
30 Grandchildren and 12 Great-grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his wives, Betty and Elaine; a brother, Albert; and a daughter, Jacqueline.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 4, 2012, at the Idaho Falls LDS Rose Park Ward (351 West 14th Street) with Bishop Dane Watkins Jr. officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Wood Funeral Home (273 North Ridge Avenue) and from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
