Jack was born to Thomas H. and Emma Jane Welsh Armstrong. He was raised in the Avenues in Salt Lake City. He postponed his marriage plans several times in order to take care of his mother and his baby sister. He married Louise Gillespie in 1940. They raised two sons, George and Don. He passed away in 1994 and was buried at Wasatch Lawn.
