Martha Wilson, 17, daughter of Mr and Mrs Aubrey Wilson of Fisher, who was critically injured in the crash, regained consciousness yesterday. Her right leg was severed; she suffered a broken jaw, internal injuries and cuts and bruises.
Also hospitalized are Joan Dennis, 17, daughter of Mr and Mrs R T (Turner) Dennis of Fisher, who suffered lacerations, bruises and shock; Jimmy Block, 18, and Dorsey Block, 16, sons of Mr and Mrs Willie Block of Waldenburg. Jimmy Block suffered head injuries, injuries to the right knee and cuts and brusies. Dorsey Block suffered head injuries, severe lacerations and bruises.
The five girls were occupants of a car being driven north toward Waldenburg on Highway 39 by Barbara Sue Looney, while the boys were riding in a car being driven south toward Fisher on Highway 39 by Jimmy Block.
State Trooper Sid Riley said immediately before the accident, Barbara Looney apparently lost control of the car she was driving and at the time of the collison, it was skidding side-ways in the west lane of traffic.
The Block car hit this car in which the girls were riding broad-sides, knocking it 33 feet along the side of the road to the shoulder and into a tree, the trooper related.
