Mary Sackett Murtaugh Murphy, 91, a longtime resident of Millbrook, died Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at Dutchess Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Pawling. Mary was a former clerk for the Village of Millbrook from 1961-1966. Previously she assisted her first husband, John P. Murtaugh at Murtaugh's Ford and Murtaugh's Moving and Storage, both in Millbrook. She also was employed for a number of years at the Bank of Millbrook. Born in Amenia, NY on January 5, 1916, Mary was the daughter of Charles and Sarah Turner Sackett. She was a graduate of Millbrook High School, Class of 1933 and Wood - Purinton Secretarial School. On February 15, 1947, Mary married John P. Murtaugh, former five term Mayor of Millbrook. Mayor Murtaugh predeceased her on January 13, 1966. On August 8, 1971 at St. Joseph's Church, Millbrook, she married James "Jay" Murphy. Mr. Murphy died January 1, 1991. Mary was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church, Millbrook, a member of St. Joseph's Women's Guild, Town of Washington Historical Society, Millbrook Senior Citizens, Sharon Hospital Auxiliary, and a Charter Member of Millbrook Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary. Mary is survived by her sister, Marcella Britton of Pawling; several nieces and nephews; several grand nieces and nephews; and sister in law, Patricia Murphy of Millbrook. She was predeceased by a sister, Eleanor Sackett and brother Charles Sackett. Interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Millbrook.
