Charles E. Hinkle Sr., 90, of 918 Main St., Slatington, died Thursday in Palmerton Hospital. He was the husband of the late Emma C.R. (Knappenberger) Hinkle.
He was a self-employed painter and paper hanger in the Northern Lehigh and Palmerton areas for 40 years, retiring in 1965.
He was a past borough councilman and past president of the council of Walnutport, 1940-50.
Born in Easton, he was a son of the late John H. and Bertha (Wesner) Hinkle.
He was an Army veteran, serving in the 1920s.
Survivors: Sons, Charles Jr. and David A., both of Slatington, and Ronald B. of Walnutport; daughter, Joan, wife of Barry Serfass of Lehighton; sisters, Mrs. Eva Lozier, Mrs. Elsie Smith, and Margaret, wife of Edward Miller, all of Allentown; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Robert.
Services: 1:30 p.m. Monday, Harding-Fox Funeral Home, 25-27 N. 2nd St., Slatington. Call 12:30-1:30 p.m. Monday.
