"The death of John B. Hooker, Jr., occurred suddenly Wednesday afternoon while he was mowing the lawn at his home in Fly Creek. Death resulted from a heart attack. Mr. Hooker, a graduate of Hartwick Seminary in 1888 and Hamilton College in 1892, was telegraph editor of the Utica Press during the Spanish-American War and had been associated with the Winthrop Press in New York City. He has operated the Hooker family Homestead Farm since 1903, when he returned to Fly Creek. Mr. Hooker was born at Fly Creek January 28, 1869, a son of John Burton and Ann Eliza (Olendorf) Hooker. He was the last surviving elder of the Fly Creek Presbyterian church when that organization was dissolved by the Otsego Presbytery in 1933 ... Mr. Hooker married Mary Elizabeth Hutchings in Fly Creek October 27, 1910. Funeral services have been set for 2 p. m. Friday in the Fly Creek Methodist church, with the Rev. Theodore Stone, pastor of that church, officiating. Burial will be in Fly Creek cemetery. Friends may call at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home, Cooperstown, before noon Friday."
