Charles A. (Cy) Urbanek, 84, of 844 Sixth St., Manitowoc, died unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 13, at his residence.
Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home and 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. William Zimmer will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Military graveside rites will be accorded Mr. Urbanek by American Legion Drews-Bleser Post No. 88 of Manitowoc.
Mr. Urbanek was born Sept. 12, 1895, at Two Creeks, son of the late Joseph and Sophia Lodl Urbanek. He attended schools at Two Creeks and Two Rivers. He became interested in music while serving in the United States Army from 1917 to 1919 and later formed his own band called "Cy Urbanek and his Midnight Ramblers". He married Florence A. Forst June 2, 1920, at St. Mary Catholic Chruch, Tisch Mills. She preceded him in death Sept. 13 (sic), 1977. Mr. Urbanek was a partner in the firm of Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home from 1920 until his retirement in 1973. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, parish Parish Council of the church; past exalted ruler of B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge 687 from 1939 to 1942 and from 1962 to 1963, served as district deputy grand exalted ruler from 1943 to 1944, was a lifetime member of the lodge and the Past Exalted Ruler Club. He was past faithful navigator of Bishop Thomas Danehy Assembly No. 1212 and current deputy grand knight; member of Knights of Columbus Council 710, past commander and 50 year member of American Legion Drews-Bleser Post 88. For 38 years he was chairman of Badger Boys State and was past grand cheminot of Voiture No. 1130 of the 40 et 8. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Otto Oas Post 659; 50 year member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 706; member of Manitowoc Yacht Club, C.Z.B.J. Lodge No. 115, Wisconsin Czech Society, Squeeker Sip Club of Tisch Mills, United Commercial Travelers and Nation, Wisconsin and Fox River Valley Funeral Directors Association. He also served on Manitowoc Police and Fire Commission many years and served as president for two terms.
Survivors include a daughter, Margaret M. Urbanek of Milwaukee, a brother and sister-in-law, Ben and Eva Urbanek and a sister, Mrs. Frank (Martha) Shedivy of Two Rivers and nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Louis and Ed, preceded him in death.
Friends may call at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home after 4 o'clock this Friday after- noon and Saturday until the time of service.
Members of Manitowoc Lions club will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home and Knights of Columbus will participate with members of the parish in a prayer service at 7 p.m.
