Funeral services for Beulah Hazel Elwood, 99, were held Wednesday, Sept. 26, at 2 p.m. at the Platte Funeral Chapel in Wheatland, Wyoming, with Pastor Gordon Swedberg officiating. Interment was in the Wheatland Cemetery.

Mrs. Elwood died Sunday, Sept. 22 [1996] at the Platte County Memorial Nursing Home in Wheatland.

Beulah was born July 4, 1897, at Newberg Oregon, the daughter of J.A. Estep and Eva Nova (Boverd) Estep. At an early age she moved with her family to Oberlin, Kansas, where she moved with her family to Oberlin, Kansas, where she received her education. Later, the family moved to Colorado where she met and married C.K. Elwood of Haigler, Nebraska. On April 14 1917, they moved to Glendo, Wyoming, and in 1920, they operated a grocery store in Glendo.

Beulah worked in cafes in Glendo and Douglas, Wyoming. As a young woman she did typesetting.

After the death of her husband, she lived alone until illness prompted her move to the nursing home in Wheatland. She belonged to the Senior Center in Glendo, Rebekah Lodge No. 15 of Douglas, American Legion Auxiliary, Glendo Benefit Club, and the Community Church of Glendo. Beulah is survived by several nieces, nephews, and a special friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, C.K. Elwood in 1974; sisters, brothers, and nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers were members of her family.

Memorials to the Glendo Community Church, the Platt County Memorial Nursing Home or the Alzheimer's Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Memorials may be sent in care of the Platte Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box 816, Wheatland, Wyoming 82201. The Platte Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
