MR. HENRY BAUGHMAN
A Tribute Paid Him By One Who Knew Him Well.
Entered the rest that remains for the people of God, after an illness of only five days. Mr. Henry Baughman, on Wednesday, June 13th, 1888, in the 49th year of his age, at Stanford, Ky.
He was married to Miss Alice Latimer, of Lexington, Ga., some 20 years since, who with five children are left to mourn a loss to them irreparable.
For more than 20 years he was a member of the Christian church; for 15 years the faithful, efficient deacon, giving liberally of his means, by advice and fostering care, building up its interests. An influential citizen; public spirited, honored by all who knew him. No man will be missed more by the community in which he lived.
Just and upright in principle, he has left the heritage of a good name with his children - more to be desired than riches. He was a fond, devoted husband, a kind, indulgent father, a faithful brother, a dutiful and affectionate son. The ways of Providence are indeed inscrutible, and we, with our sinful natures, find it hard to say "Thy will be done." Cut off in the bloom of his manhood, in the midst of his usefulness; torn from the family who loved him so well, taken away from his aged parents who leaned on him in their old age, it seems strange, but dear mourning ones take comfort. It is a loving father's hand that deal's the blow and "He doeth all things well." "Whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth." Tis but another link in the chain that binds us to our God. The eye of faith and love looks beyond this fleeting, sinful vale, to the home beyond the sky, awaiting God's children. Look to Him and He will surely bless; trust His promises. He will comfort you, keep you under the shadow of His wing and be "thy strong habitation whereunto thou mayest continually resort."
