He was one of the founders of the Revolutionary Movement of Left, (MIR) party of which he was General Secretary between 1967 and 1974. During the government of Salvador Allende, this group deeply marked the experience of the social movement in Chile. With the military coup of 1973, Miguel Enríquez was the organizator or the popular resistance against the dictatorship. He died wounded for a bullet in a confrontation with agents of military security. Next to Miguel Enriquez, his father, Mr. Edgardo Enriquez Froeden is buried (1912-1996). He was leader of the Radical Party and Minister of Education in the government of Salvador Allende.The medicine faculty of the Superior Institute of Medicine of La Habana, Cuba, takes the name of Miguel today.
