Known as May Smith on the state, she was a stage and vaudeville actress, and member of the Four Brilliants Quartet. In the 1880s she played with her sister Kitty Smith in several vaudeville engagements and shows. She started on the stage at 17 and later married Dick Challant of the ElectriscQuartet and later married Charles H. Niemeyer, manager and theatre proprietor. Mary's last performance was in her son's vaude act on the Winter Garden stage in 1923. She lies next to her son Joseph who was also a vaudeville performer.
