Edward A. "Ted" Marye Jr., 76, of Mount Sterling, formerly of Versailles, husband of Mabel Scott Marye, died Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at his residence. Born April 1, 1927, in Madisonville, he was the son of Edward A. Marye Sr. and Mary Louisa Ashby Marye. He was a 1951 graduate of the University of Kentucky, and was in private practice in Versailles from 1952 to 1956. He served on the legal staff of the Kentucky Department of Revenue and was an assistant attorney general. He returned to private practice in 1960, served as city attorney from 1961-64, was elected as city judge in 1964, and was county attorney from 1967-68. He moved to a private practice in Mount Sterling in 1968, and also served as a city judge there. He was an assistant commonwealth's attorney for the 21st Judicial District from 1978-84 and 1987-92. He was a district judge for the 21st Judicial District from 1984-86. He was a member of Ascension Episcopal Church, the Versailles and Mount Sterling Kiwanis clubs and the Mount Sterling Little Theater. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Scott Marye and Edward A. Marye III, both of Mount Sterling; a daughter, Taylor Alicia Marye-Baker, Hombrechtikon, Switzerland; a grandchild, Courtney Mitchell Marye, Mt. Sterling; and a half-brother, Morton Davis Marye, Bedford. Memorial services will be conducted at noon Saturday, April 26, 2003, at the Ascension Episcopal Church by Fr. John Dews. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, April 25, and from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.
