Charley Ausmus was the son of Henry B. and Blanch (Dickerson) Ausmus. He was born in Beaver County, Oklahoma. Charley was raised on the family farm west of Forgan, Oklahoma. He graduated from Liberal High School in 1933 and Panhandle State (A&M) University in 1941. While in college he met Avis Shores. They were married on January 17, 1942 in Liberal, KS. They had three children; Diane (Bond), Barabara (Robins), and Charlene (Plett). Following his graduation from college, Charley briefly taught at Greenough Schools. He later worked and retired from Beech Aircraft Company in Liberal, KS while also operating the family farm. Following retirement, he and Avis traveled the country and ultimately moved to Mesa, Arizona in 1978. Charley was a member of the Bethel Church of God near his farm and a member of the East University Church of God in Mesa, Arizona. Charley loved sports and also served on the school board for Forgan Public Schools. Charley and Avis spent the latter years of his life traveling in their motorhome visiting their children and grand children.
