Birth: Oct. 13, 1976
Death: Dec. 14, 2009

Shem O'Neal Herman was a talented, avid NYC music writer and his career as a writer led him as far as Buenos Aires where he wrote about eclectic bands. As a world traveler, he traversed Europe and South America being inspired by the sights and sounds of Paris to the beauty of Iguazzu Falls. He was an alum of Simon's Rock College and continued his education at CUNY in preparation for a career in social work- following the steps of his father, Mason O'Neal. Shem being a community minded individual, wrote commentary and editorials that appeared in The Manhattan Times and The Village Voice. He was a loving father, husband, and son. Shem was a proud new father to Dylan Nathaniel, age 2 and devoted husband to Claribel. Shem was a supportive brother to Matthew, Michael, and Kirk, and adored nephew to Silvia and Rachel, and adored, unforgettable son to Mason and Jackie. He touched many lives and leaves behind numerous friends including long-time, best friend, Jeremy. We miss his warmth, intelligence, creativity, and inner strength. Always alive on in our hearts never to be forgotten.
