Mary Elizabeth [Temple] Harris was born in Marseilles, France to American-born John Louis Temple and Catherine [Davis] Temple of Ohio, both of English descent, whose families were engaged in shipping and exporting French goods to England and America. Five weeks after Mary's birth, the family returned again to America, settling back on their farm near Piqua, Ohio for several years. Later, the Temples moved to Indiana, where John Temple owned two farms in Carroll County and Cass County. Mary married Albert Winfield Harris in Carroll County, Indiana, on 30 Sept. 1877. They lived in Adams Township, by Lockport for 27 years. In 1904, they moved to Oxford, Benton County, where they lived for 14 years. In 1918, they moved to what is now West Lafayette, Tippecanoe County, near the Soldiers Home, about 3 miles from Battle Ground, Indiana. Mary died of a Heart Attack while visiting in Boswell, Indiana, in 1928.
