General was born in Goldwait, a defunct town located just east of present-day Winslow, in Pike Co., IN. General W. & Ita A. (Gosser) Eades first met when Ita was 9 years old and they were married when she was 13. Their first home in Gosser Ridge area of Russell County, KY was a small tin-roof house, not much more than a cabin. After a couple of weeks of marriage, General returned Ita to her mother and said "teach her some things" – meaning about intimate relations. Apparently it worked because they had seventeen children over 24 years. He was an Army Private in World War I and got a kick out of being a General in a Private's uniform.
