He preached in Kentucky, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Kansas, Arkansas, Montana, Idaho, Oregon and Washington, eleven states in all. Several thousand were made to rejoice in the hope of the Gospel under his untiring and efficient labors.
His efforts and zeal to preach the word knew no bounds. When ever and where ever duty called he we was always ready. No sacrifice of time, means or energy seems to great for him. Being a man of positive nature, and a decided and strong personality, he hated sin and shams with all his being, and loved truth and righteousness with the same degree of vehemence. He loved his Lord and Master with all his soul. Only second to this did he love his family and his fellow men.
In his death another veteran of the cross has, therefore, laid down his armor in honor, having fought a good fight. He finished his course, in the faith well kept to the end. For many days he waited for the summons, "Child come home," and the "Come ye blessed of my father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and ye gave me meat. I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you took me in, naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came unto me."
He leaves a faithful wife and one son and seven daughters, with other relatives and friends to mourn his absence. Yet, none of them sorrow as others who have no hope.
A short, simple and unostentatious service was held at the home, Wednesday morning, at 9:30, conducted by Rev. A. J. Carrick, of Kahoka.
The following Scriptures were read as expressive of the life and sentiments of the deceased: Psalm. 23:1-6: Acts, 20:25-27: Romans, 8:31-39: II Corinthians, 4:15-18: 5:1-10: II Timothy, 4:6-8: Jude 1:24,26.
After the services the body was taken by the friends to Hamilton, Ill., where it was laid peacefully to rest, till He shall come again, whose right it is to rule.
"Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord form henceforth, saith the Spirit, Yea, that they may rest from the labors, and that their works do follow them."
