Obituary
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro for Mitchell Andrew Abadie, age 47, who passed away peacefully, July 8, 2012, in Portland, Maine.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Lafayette. Deacon Ken Arnaud will officiate at the services.
Survivors include, one cherished daughter, Erin Ann Smith; his mother, Pauline Hebert; his cousin and best friend, Ric Zaunbrecher; four sisters, Charmaine Albarado and her husband, Billy; Angela Abadie, Elizabeth Williams and her husband, Bruce, and Kelli Abadie; two brothers, James Abadie and his wife, Debra, and Randy Abadie; eight nieces, two nephews, two great nieces; four great nephews; and many cousins he considered friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clayton Abadie.
Mr. Abadie was a native of Lafayette and loved the Pacific Northwest, spending most of his adult life in Seattle, Washington.
His endless imagination and curiosity were evident as a child. The first time he saw forecasts of a hurricane, he dug a large hole in a neighboring field so he could "camp out and experience it-not just watch it on tv" (thankfully, the storm never made landfall.) He was always looking for the next adventure and his job as a production operator in the oilfield allowed him plenty of time between hitches to camp in 49 states.
His daughter's birth was the proudest moment in his life—he took endless photos and videos and she was his favorite topic of conversation.
His life was short and unconventional but he will be remembered for his sharp wit, brilliant mind and the way he lit up when he played with Erin.
Melancon Funeral Home, Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel, 4117 N. University Ave., Carencro, Louisiana was in charge of arrangements.
