FAIRMONT Robert "Bob" D. Blount, 82, of New Martinsville, died Monday (Feb. 7, 2011) at his home.

Bob was born April 3, 1928, in Rachel, son of the late James W. and Ella Florence Blount.

He was retired from the State of Colorado, where he was a federal and state materials screener and a U.S. Army veteran.

Bob was a talented woodworker and carpenter, a jack-of-all-trades. He was a witty person and quite a storyteller who could always bring a smile. His love of animals through the years allowed him to raise many different breeds of dogs and horses as well as exotic birds. Bob loved babies and children and they loved him.

He was a member of the Church of Christ at Pleasant Valley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Darlene Blount; five brothers, infant Richard, Ira, Maury, Junior and Howard; and six sisters, Hazel, Ivory, Helen, Dorothy, Lillian and Ruby. He was the youngest of 12 children and the last surviving sibling.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Marcella Garrett Blount; son, Douglas (Deana) Blount of Racine, Wis.; daughter, Melody Bohrer of Morristown, N.J.; five grandchildren, Leah Kay (Nick) Senecal, Shyla Bohrer, Owen Blount, Oliver Blount and Olivia Blount; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Jarvis-Williams Funeral Homes, 1224 South Bridge St., New Martinsville, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday with John Veyon officiating. Interment will be in Mannington Memorial Park in Mannington. The Honor Guard of Sistersville, Paden City and New Martinsville will conduct military honors at the conclusion of the funeral services at the funeral home.
