Hannah Spence was born in Franklin Co, PA, on 11 Sep 1786. She was the oldest daughter of seven children born from the union of Samuel Spence and Margaret McClellan(d). In 1790, her family migrated from Pennsylvania to Wofford Co, (now Scott Co.), Kentucky. They settled 4 1/2 miles northwest of Lebanon Station (now Georgetown), Kentucky, on "Four Sisters Run". In Feb 1794, their father Samuel Spence was shot by Indians while he was boiling sugar water at night. He died two weeks later. Her mother Margaret McClellan Spence married Hugh Dickey in 1796 and moved to Fayette Co, Indiana, after 1800.

About 1802, Hannah Spence came to Ohio to visit her uncle and aunt, Isaac and Esther (Walker) Spence, as well as another uncle and aunt, Collen and Margaret (Walker) Spence. During the visit, she met Samuel Brice Walker, brother of Esther and Margaret. After her visit, she returned home to Kentucky.

On 24 Feb 1804, Samuel wrote her a letter asking her to marry him. He was living in Hamilton Twp, Warren Co, Ohio. On 21 Sep 1804, she answered his letter saying she would be his wife. She was living on McConnel Run, Scott Co, Kentucky. They were married on 25 Dec 1804 probably in Kentucky, as no marriage was recorded for them in Warren Co, Ohio.

Hannah Spence saved the love letters that Samuel Brice Walker had written her during their long distance romance. She also saved letters that her husband had written her from two separate battle fields in the War of 1812. Some of these letters are published in the 1882 Beer's "History of Warren County, Ohio."

Samuel Brice and Hannah Spence Walker, soon after their marriage, settled in Murdoch, Warren Co, Ohio, where they spent the remainder of their lives. She was an active member of the Bethel Murdoch Presbyterian Church from its organization on Sep 9, 1814; however, he joined the church in 1828. Samuel Brice and Hannah (Spence) Walker had ten children:

1. Sarah Walker, b. 10 Jul 1806, d. 14 Apr 1880, m. John B. Shields.
2. Isabelle Walker, b. 3 Sep 1807, d. 31 Aug 1808
3. James Walker, b. 8 Mar 1809, d. 16 Jul 1879, m. Isabella Martin, and m. Anna Nora Murphey
