Had black hair, blue eyes, a keen sense of humor and a wonderful disposition. He was made almost totally deaf as a result of the Civil War. He wrote many selections for Barto Lloyd's books. He was a very successful farmer or planter, owned 1000 acres of land around Kellyton in Coosa County, Alabama before moving in 1902 to Wetumpka, Alabama where all of his children lived.

Uncle Ben and Aunt Mary lived on 712 North Bridge Street in Wetumpka.Coosa County, Alabama

B. L. GADDIS, LEADING WETUMPKA CITIZEN, DIES FRIDAY NIGHT. - Prominent Banker and Confederate Veteran To Be Buried Sunday.

Benjamin Lloyd Gaddis, aged 73, one of the best known men of Coosa and Elmore counties, father of B. L. Gaddis, Jr., of Montgomery, died at the family home in Wetumpka early Friday night, and will be buried in the family cemetery Sunday morning at 11 o'clock. Mr. Gaddis had been ill some time.
Mr. Gaddis was a native of Coosa county, but moved to Wetumpka in 1903, where he was a leader in civic and industrial activities. He was the first president of the Bank of Wetumpka, and at the time of his death was vice-president of that institution. He was a Confederate veteran, serving throughout the war with Swanson's brigade, army of Virginia.

Mr. Gaddis leaves four children, B. L. Gaddis of Montgomery, John A. Gaddis of Wetumpka, Mrs. W. L. Lancaster of Wetumpka, and Mrs. T. H. Bass of Houston, Texas. He was a member of the Methodist church, and Dr. Boyd, pastor of the Wetumpka Methodist church, will conduct funeral services Sunday.
