William lived at Blackstock, S.C. and was married twice before leaving there. His first wife Rhoda Wright, daughter of Peter Wright and Jennie Hedgepeth. She was of medium height with olive complexion and brown eyes. She died in childbirth and was buried in a white robe with the infant in her arms. The inscription on her tomb in the Baptist churchyard, Beaver Creek, S.C., states that she died Oct. 23, 1848, aged 31 years, 5 months and 16 days, and left 8 children to mourn their loss.
