Obituary for Elizabeth Valentine Labar from the Huntington Herald-Press of September, 1903:

"Friends of the LaBarr family, of East Franklin street, were greatly suprised this morning upon learning that Mrs. Elizabeth LaBarr, mother of W.H. LaBarr, the Erie fireman, had died Wednesday evening at 8:30 o'clock. The lady had been ill only since Sunday and her illness was not thought to be serious. She first suffered a bilious attack and it is thought her death was due to heart trouble. She walked around the home Wednesday and between 7:30 and 8:00 o'clock her son, William, assisted her upstairs. Climbing the stairs seemed to weaken her and she at once grew worse and a physician was called. He arrived a short time before she died. Mrs. LaBarr was the youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. George Valentine and was born in Fairfield County, Ohio. She came to Huntington twenty years ago and at the time of her death was seventy-three years old. She was the mother of four children, they being Mrs. Joseph Smith, of Ridgeville, Ohio; Mrs. Carrie McGarvey of Coltos, Ohio with whom she visited three weeks ago; Mrs. Hezekiah Kilander, of this city, and W. H. LaBarr, the Erie fireman, at whose home she died. The funeral will be held at the residence Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. Jacob Wise officiating. She was a member of the Evangelical church fifty years."
