In the cemetery his name is listed as Gerard Fosbrink
Garrett Fosbrink, born 28 July 1802, His parents are Johan Gerhard Vossbrinck and Catherina Adelheit "Catherine" Kaiser in Talge, Badbergen, Germany died in 1856 while living in Pennsylvania. His wife Mary Kreger was born 2 February 1804 In Nellinghoff, Neuenkirchen, Germany and died in 1886 while living in Pennsylvania.
Garrett and Mary emigrated to the United States in 1836 just after having a baby, who was only three months old. Garrett was a farmer and owned his own farm in Somerset county, Pennsylvania. His wife was the daughter of Henry Kreger, born in Germany, whom also lived close to them and came from Germany with them.
In 1836 Henry, His, wife Elizabeth, and Garrett Fosbrink, with his family (a party of ten) left Hanover, Germany, and after a voyage of fifty-four days landed in Baltimore, Maryland. Here they purchased wagons and teams, coming in that way to Somerset county over the National Road, then being built. They joined, Henry's four sons already living there, which included Henry, Fred, Barney and Dietrich, who had proceeded them to Somerset county, prospered, and sent home money that helped their parents financially to come and Live in the United States.
Garrett had 6 siblings Anna Catharina, Maria Elsabein, Gerhard Heinrich, Elizabeth, Elizabeth and Ana Adeheid. He had 7 children, Garrett, Catharina Maria (Mary), Henry, Herman, John H and Solomon. The whole colony of Fosbrinks and Kregers settled nearby in Somerset county.
After they had been in Somerset county about ten years, Garrett bought a farm of one hundred and twenty-seven acres in Upper Turkeyfoot Township, where he died, as did his wife. Previous to coming to the United States he had served six years in the German army. They were members of the Lutheran Church.
Garrett also had three sisters that traveled with them. Katherine, who married Henry Nearman, a blacksmith of Baltimore, Maryland, Mary, who married Joseph Newmeyer, a silversmith of Baltimore and Elizabeth.
It says all together they did have eight children. Henry born in Germany a farmer of Donegal, Mary born in Germany, Garrett Jr., and Herman listed as both being Veteran's of the Civil War, and also John and three other children that died in infancy which I think Solomon would be one of the three.
