Mrs. Pietsch passed away the evening of Thursday, July 5, 2012 at the Medstar Care Center in Giddings.

Lena Lilly Bamsch Pietsch was born on April 16, 1921 in Temple, Texas to Gerhard & Hulda (Richter) Bamsch. She was baptized on April 24, 1921 at The Grove and confirmed on April 5, 1936 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Warda, Texas by Rev. Paul Eifert. Her confirmation verse was John 8:31-32 "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." Lena was united in marriage to Bernhard "Ben" Pietsch on January 21, 1940 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Warda by Rev. Paul Eifert. Their marriage was blessed with four daughters, Shirley, Glennie, Linda & Kathy.

Lena worked as a cafeteria worker for Giddings I.S.D. for 20 years and had also worked as a seamstress for Hughes Manufacturing in Giddings. She and Ben spent 63 years together ranching, fishing, camping and spending time with family and friends before his death on January 29, 2003. Lena also enjoyed gardening, working in her yard and watching and feeding the birds and squirrels. She will be remembered for her family Sunday lunches that always included her homemade noodles.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Stewart Hervey III and several brothers and sisters.

Lena is survived by her four daughters, Shirley & Edwin Kissmann of Giddings, Glennie Hervey of Giddings, Linda & Roy Pharis of Dime Box and Kathy Pietsch of Giddings; eleven grandchildren, Marna Billiter of College Station, Marcus & Katherine Kissmann of College Station, Amy Zwernemann & close friend, Allison Murray of Giddings, Rae Ann & Jimmy Mitschke of Giddings, Darden & Shannon Hervey of Dime Box, Lamar & Kimberly Hervey of College Station, Aaron & Michelle Hervey of Dime Box, Kurt Pharis & Laura Culin of Dime Box, Cody Pharis of Dime Box, Brock & Melanie Kovar of Bastrop and Chad Kovar of Bryan; seventeen great grandchildren, Zachary, Noah & Amanda Billiter of College Station, Kambrie, Bryndi, Brayden & Gentry Kissmann of College Station, Dalton & Jordyn Mitschke of Giddings, Kellyn & Stew Hervey of Dime Box, Lawton Hervey of College Station, Shelbi & Helena Pharis of Dime Box, Reid Kovar of Bastrop and Abigail & Breanna Kovar of Bryan; two sisters-in-law, Hildegard Bamsch of Arizona and Lorine Wisniski of Houston as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers will be Marcus Kissmann, Jimmy Mitschke, Darden Hervey, Aaron Hervey, Kurt Pharis, Cody Pharis, Brock Kovar & Chad Kovar. Honorary pallbearers will be John Carroll, Brad Bell, Felton Greer, Russell Willingham and Maurice Pitts.

Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 300 North Grimes, Giddings, Texas 78942 or the charity of one's choice.
