Singer, Dancer, Actress. The future Ziegfeld superstar was born Magdalena Hajos and began performing professionally while still a young child. She came to America in 1909 and played cabarets and vaudeville theater before appearing on Broadway in 1911's 'La Belle Paree' and 'Her Little Highness' in 1913. Her lyrical soprano voice, nimble feet, and charming wit made her a star when she assumed the title role in the operetta 'Sari' (1914). Shortly therearfer, she changed her billing simply to "Mitzi" and starred in 'Pom Pom' (1916), 'Head Over Heels' (1918), 'Lady Billy' (1920), 'The Magic Ring' (1923), 'Naughty Riquette' (1926) and 'The Madcap' (1928). Her versatility and stage presence enabled her to smoothly transition into acting in non-musical plays such as 'You Can't Take it With You' (1938), 'Mr. Big' (1941) and 'Cafe Crown' (1942). Hajos, who was was married to actor Boyd Marshall from 1920 until his death in 1950, died at her home of natural causes. (bio by: Louis Mata)
