|Birth: ||Oct. 10, 1845, England|
|Death: ||May 9, 1913|
Civil War veteran, Co. F, 16th Kansas Cavalry.
Age 67-6-29. Retired farmer. His death record lists parents as Thomas Schofield and Mary Shaw, both born in England.
William Schofield, 67 years old, died at 5 o'clock this morning at the home of his son, Wm. R. Schofield, 1911 E. 17th St., after a lingering illness. A widow and four sons survive. Burial will be in Parkville MO. (KC Star, May 10, 1913).
[Notes from photo volunteer, Bonnie -- William had a Civil War pension for himself and later his widow. The pension file involves an "alias," William S. Kurns.
The Schofield plot is in an area that appears to have sunk badly at one point, and then dirt added without raising the stones.
We found the stone for Ruth Ann Schofield, which we were able to decipher as Ruth Ann, daughter of Wm & Eliza A Schofield, Born Feb 11(?), 1873, Died Nov 21, 1874. It appears in the index twice, once as Ruth Ann, and once as ? Schofield--dates on latter are Feb. 1871-Nov. 1874.
We found markers that seemed to lay out a family plot. We felt the two stones that were mostly buried right next to Ruth Ann's might be her parents, so we did some digging to reveal the face of one. Sure enough, it was a Civil War military stone for William! We photographed it and then replaced the dirt rather than leave an unstable hole.]
