Mary Amanda Damuth was born March 6, 1845, in Thurmont, Frederick County, Maryland, the daughter of David and Catherine Stauffer Damuth. On September 22, 1870, she married Josiah Freeze, son of Michael and Susanna Wetzel Freeze. The couple had 5 children, the youngest dying at the age of 2. The other four were Orpha Ellen, Luther Morris, Susan Katherine and Wilbur Wire Freeze. Mary passed away June 6, 1901, in Thurmont, and was buried on the 8th in Weller's Church Cemetery there.

"Death of Mary Amanda Freeze. Mary Amanda, wife of Josiah Freeze anddaughter of the late David Damuth, died on Thursday last, at her homenear Apple's Church, after an illness of seven years, her malady being disease of the heart. Her age was 56 years, 3 months and ---days. She was the mother of five children, four of whom, and her husband survive her. She was a kind-hearted Christian woman, highly esteemed by all who came in contact with her. The funeral was held on Saturday, services at the home, interment in the United Brethren Cemetery, Rev. W. S T. Metzger of the Lutheran Church, her pastor, assisted by Rev. W. L. Dougherty, officiating."

Her age was 56 years. She is survived by her husband and five children. The funeral was held on Saturday with services at the home and interment in the United Brethren Cemetery, Rev. W. S. T. Metzger of the Lutheran Church, assisted by Rev. W. E. Daughterty, officiating."
