Mary Amanda Damuth was born March 6, 1845, in Thurmont, Frederick County, Maryland, the daughter of David and Catherine Stauffer Damuth. On September 22, 1870, she married Josiah Freeze, son of Michael and Susanna Wetzel Freeze. The couple had 5 children, the youngest dying at the age of 2. The other four were Orpha Ellen, Luther Morris, Susan Katherine and Wilbur Wire Freeze. Mary passed away June 6, 1901, in Thurmont, and was buried on the 8th in Weller's Church Cemetery there.

Her age was 56 years, 3 months and ---days. She was the mother of five children, four of whom, and her husband survive her. She was a kind-hearted Christian woman, highly esteemed by all who came in contact with her. The funeral was held on Saturday, services at the home, interment in the United Brethren Cemetery, Rev. W. S T. Metzger of the Lutheran Church, her pastor, assisted by Rev. W. L. Dougherty, officiating."
