Betty Jo Ash of Sherwood, formerly of Pleasant Hill and Eugene died July 11 of age-related causes. She was 81.
Ash was born Aug. 12, 1922, in Richard City, Tenn., to Edward and Ada Blankenship Dobbins. She married Richard Ash in Inglewood, Calif., on July 28, 1942. He died in 1990.
She lived in the California cities of Inglewood, Jamul and Whittier before moving to Oregon. She lived in Pleasant Hill for more than 30 years and in Eugene for four years until 1993, when she moved to Newberg. She resided in Tualatin before moving to Sherwood.
She graduated from Inglewood High School.
She worked in an aircraft manufacturing plant during World War II. She later worked as a clerk at the Pleasant Hill Grocery Store.
She was a member of the Trent Church of Christ for 34 years. She was an active Pleasant Hill school volunteer and helped raise money for an exchange student program in Mexico. She was instrumental in the creation of the Pleasant Hill Fire Department.
Her interests included flowers, and she was an accomplished rose gardener. She enjoyed teddy bears, gold jewelry and prime rib. She also enjoyed hot fudge sundaes but hadn't eaten one in 40 years due to diabetes. She especially enjoyed babies and her friends.
Survivors: daughters, Linda Scott of Sherwood and Jan Shannon of Portland; brother, Charles Dobbins of Desert Shores, CA; sister, Ann Olsen of Mission Viejo, CA; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren.
Private inurnment at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Attrell's Sherwood Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
