The crowning event of the season took place last week Wednesday evening, March 10, when upwards of a hundred guests assembled at Hotel Hutchinson to witness the marriage of their daughter, Carrie E., to John L. Welty of Scipio.
The weather in the morning was rather inauspicious but before evening it was fair and bright as any bride could wish for. When all was in readiness the Genoa orchestra struck up Mendelsohn's wedding march. Four young ladies consisting of the bride's sister, Miss May and three friends dressed in white, acted as ribbon bearers and preceded the contracting parties into the room.
A corner of the large sitting room had been chosen as the place, for them to stand, where were placed a number of plants and over all a drapery of cream bunting rendering a very pleasing effect. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Mr Graves of Scipio.
After the hearty congratulations a very sumptuous repast was served which was indeed "a feast of fat things." The dining room was tastefully decorated with pink and white bunting and with the handsomely arranged tables and brilliant illuminations, the scene was almost like a peep into fairy land. The bride was arrayed in a dress of cream serge with silk lace and passmenterie and she also wore wreaths of roses and smilax on her shoulder and in her hair. The presents were numerous and costly showing the esteem with which the young people are regarded.
They departed for Auburn that night followed by showers of rice. From there they took a short bridal trip returning home on Monday of this week. That their life may be as free from clouds, as was the sky on their marriage eve is the wish of many friends.
