| Birth: | unknown | | Death: | unknown | In four years of fighting in the American Civil War, the Irish Brigade lost over 4,000 men killed, wounded and missing. At the Battle of Antietam, the four regiments then comprising the brigade (63rd NY, 69th NY, 88th NY, 29th Mass) lost a total of 422 wounded and 113 killed. This monument was dedicated at the south end of Bloody Lane, Antietam Battlefield, in October of 1997. It commemorates the dead and wounded of that battle who fell scant yards away, as well memorializes Thomas Francis Meagher, the General who commanded the Brigade that day, September 17, 1862.
