A death which will be deeply mourned in this community was that of Miss Agnes McCole, second daughter of Mrs. Catherine McCole of Green Bay, formerly of Chilton town, which occurred at the city hospital at Jamestown, N. D., on Friday, Dec. 29, 1911. Some three months ago Miss McCole assumed charge of a school at Jamestown and was progressing nicely until some four weeks ago when she was taken ill. The attending physician pronounced her sickness typhoid fever and she was taken to the hospital for care. She wrote her mother of her sickness, saying that it was nothing serious so the family were little prepared for the message that came later telling of her serious condition, in response to which her sister, Miss Mary, left immediately for Jamestown and was at her bedside when she passed away.
Agnes McCole was born in Chilton town, Sept. 11, 1883, a daughter of the late Patrick McCole. She obtained a good education in the common schools and then entered the Oshkosh Normal from which institution she graduated in 1902 and immediately entered the teachers' profession in North Dakota, teaching at Ellendale and Genesco, that state, for seven years and being remarkably successful in her line of work. She was an exceptionally bright young lady, vivacious and full of life and naturally enjoyed a large number of friends both in Wisconsin and North Dakota. She stood high in educational circles, both while a student at the Normal and later, after taking up the practical work of teaching, in which she ranked high. She was popular everywhere and was the life of the home circle which was made desolate by her sudden death.
Her remains were brought to Green Bay Saturday evening last by her sister, Mary, accompanied by her cousins, Miss Eleanor Dougherty of Genesco and Frank Robinson of Grand forks. On Tuesday morning they were brought to this city for interment in the family lot, following the usual funeral services at St. Augustine church in which she was baptized and confirmed.
The deceased is survived by her mother, Mrs. Catherine McCole, and two sisters, Misses Mary and Jennie of Green Bay and four brothers, Thomas of Atlanta, Ga., P. D. and John of Sagola, Mich., and Jas. Of Wellington, Kansas, all of whom with the exception of Thomas were present at the funeral.
