In June 1851, they sailed from Amsterdam for America, making the voyage in a sailing vessel. After seven weeks they landed in New York. From here they went to St. Louis, Missouri, where they lived for ten years.
By this time Tante's brother Christian, was living in Newton. So, they decide to move there, Fritz (Tante's other brother) also came to Newton. All settled in one neighborhood.

Deceased, Who Had Been Resident Here For 65 Years,
Was 97 Years of Age at Time of Her Death
A life which spanned nearly a century of years closed last night when Mrs. Conradine Sophia Hackmann, widow of the late George Hackman died at the advanced age of 97 years. Death came to Mrs. Hackmann at her home 926 South Fourteenth street where she recently celebrated her birthday anniversary by personally receiving and entertaining guests. Mrs. Hackmann had been a resident of the city for 65 years.
She was born at Lippe-Detmold, Germany on December 13, 1818 and came to this county in 1850. Her maiden name was Conradine Sieker. Her husband died some years ago and Mrs. Hackmann is survived by one son, John, residing on a farm at Rapids and a daughter, Mrs. Conradine Gauger, this city. Seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive. Deceased was well known and highly esteemed. The funeral will be held Monday at 1:30 from the home to the German Lutheran church. Interment will be at Evergreen.
