L. Joan Kirkpatrick, 84, Converse, died at 2:56 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2012, at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne. She was born July 9, 1927, in Miami County, to Uretta (Gerhart) and Charles E. Russell. On Nov. 25, 1945, in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, she married Thomas J. Kirkpatrick.

Joan was employed at Oak Hill United School Corp. in Converse for 22 years. She retired in 1987 as bookkeeper.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas J. Kirkpatrick, Converse; son, Tom W. (Debbie) Kirkpatrick, Hickory, N.C.; daughter, Loretta (Reid) Duffy, Indianapolis; grandchildren, Megan (Jay) Arbuckle, Jeff (Laura) Kirkpatrick and Matt Duffy; great-grandchildren, Riley and Cole Arbuckle, and Kaitlyn and Emma Kirkpatrick; and sister, Rebecca (Robert) Kreuzberger, Culver.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Graveside funeral services will be 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Galveston Cemetery in Galveston, with the Rev. Warren Purcell officiating. Burial will follow at the cemetery.
