Funeral services for Mrs. Icie L. Kemp Coley, age 94 of Lineville, will be Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland with Brother Dan Keith, Brother Chad Morgan and Brother Hubert Ford officiating. Burial will follow in the Clay County Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Coley passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at the Lineville Health and Rehabilitation Center. A native of Randolph County and former resident of Florida and Georgia, she was affectionately known as "Big Mama." Mrs. Coley was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who had worked hard in many ways, including farming, plowing and canning. She worked for 27 years at Higgins Manufacturing and along with her husband, Loyd Kemp, worked at the Blue and White Restaurant in Ashland for several years. In her later years she worked alongside her daughters, Jerlene Tapley and Anita Barrett, at Ms. Anita's Restaurant in Lineville and was famous for her fried chicken recipe. Mrs. Coley enjoyed working in her yard and garden and was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Lineville.

She is survived by three daughters: Christine Adams (Frank) of Hickory Tavern, SC, Anita Barrett (Reginald) of Lineville and Jane Hill (Charles) of Lineville; one son, Bobby Kemp (Ruth) of Talladega; two sisters: Eva Sprayberry of Jacksonville and Bobbie Barkenton of Evansville, IN; 15 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Coley was preceded in death by her parents: Samuel W. McKee and Annie Gosdin McKee; her husbands: Loyd Kemp, Robert Knight and Malcolm Coley; two daughters: Jerlene Tapley and Lonnie Shepard; two sisters: Essie Johnson and Alfa Wells; one infant brother, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Jackie Harmon, Mike Forbus, Henry Campbell, Dale Thompson, Joshua Giddens, Ricky Sudduth, Ken Coffman and Dewayne Martin.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Staff of the Lineville Health and Rehabilitation Center.

The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland on Monday, July 2, 2012 from 5:30 to 8:00 P.M. and until service time Tuesday morning.

Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland is in charge of the arrangements.
