Franz was one of 13 children who belonged to West Ida Immanuel Lutheran Church, who died in Ida, Monroe County, Michigan of Scarlet Fever in 1870. It was an epidemic through out the state of Michigan. Franz was born in Newport, Michigan on 15 February 1861 and died 24 July 1870, he was buried 28 July at the age of 9 years, 5 months, 12 days.
