Calvin L. "Cal" Bishop, age 83, of Marion, went to be with the Lord on Thursday evening, June 28, 2012, at Marion General Hospital.

On July 6, 1928, Cal was born in Tiffin, Ohio, the second of four children of the late Fred and Mabel (Raymont) Bishop. He graduated from Columbian High School in the Class of 1946 in Tiffin.

Shortly following graduation, Cal met a beautiful young lady, Barbara Ray, at a high school basketball game in Clyde, Ohio, in January of 1948. He quickly realized she was the one for him, and they were married 10 months later on October 23, 1948, at the Clyde Methodist Church. Together they lovingly raised their four children: Beverly, Judith, William and Laura; and have cherished every minute of their 63 years of marriage.

For three years after school, Cal raised hogs at Portage Farms in Woodville, Ohio, until 1950 when he moved to Clyde, Ohio to work at JW Humbert Trucking. In 1957, he was transferred within the trucking company to Marion, where he worked until 1981. Later, he worked for Frayer Seed Company for 10 years, until he retired in 1993. Always keeping busy, he then worked part time for both Nachur's and Marion Steel.

A man of faith, Cal was an active member of the Prospect Street United Methodist Church.

An avid sports fan, Cal especially enjoyed cheering on his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes. He also enjoyed gardening and tending to his roses. Being raised on a farm, he enjoyed a good tractor pull or horse pull.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Barbara Bishop of Marion; four children: Beverly Frayer of Marion, Judith (Larry) Brumfield of Springfield, William "Bill" (Libby) Bishop of Waco, Texas, and Laura (Brent) Burggraf of Marion; nine grandchildren: Jill (Kevin) Koehler, Sara (Jay) Lerner, Tirza (Jeremy) Berridge, Tim (Kelly) Brumfield, Greg (Amy) Brumfield, Whitney Bishop, Laurielle Bishop, Jeremy (Tiffany) Burggraf, and Jessie (Brett) McAllister; 11 great-grandchildren; two siblings: Donald (Rosemary) Bishop of Tiffin, and Ruth (Jack) Druckenmiller of Fremont; and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Including his parents, Cal was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law Robert and Alberta Bishop and a great granddaughter Brooke Lerner.

The Bishop family will greet friends on Sunday, July 8, 2012, from 2PM to 4PM at the Prospect Street United Methodist Church, 185 S. Prospect St., Marion. Services celebrating his life will follow at 4PM, with Pastor Nancy Goulet officiating and assisted by Rev. Clifford Bollenbacher. Burial will take place at a later date in Grand Prairie Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Prospect Street United Methodist Church.
