After a brief illness with pneumonia, MISS BUENA COOPER passed away at the beautiful paternal home in Avalon, GA on January 5th, 1938. The following day, despite the forbidding weather, a large concourse of loved ones and friends gathered at the home for the final services at 3:30 p.m. conducted by her pastor, Rev. J. M. Perryman, and Dr. Elam F. Dempsey. A spirit of intimate affection from the close family-friends assembled formed a comforting atmosphere in which the songs, "In the Garden" and "Beautiful Isle of somewhere" came like balm upon the sorrowing hearts of all. The ministers' talks were in harmony with this consoling music, which was rendered by Mesdames Lipscomb, Meaders, and Blackmon, vocalists, and Miss Jewell Hayes, pianist.
Miss Buena Cooper, the daughter of rev. W. A. Cooper and his wife, the former Miss Sara Elizabeth Payne, was born in Toccoa, GA, slightly above a half century ago, and during the past two-score years lived serenely in the home at Avalon, delighting in its outdoor charms especially, such as the shrubbery, vines flowers, the lawn, the stately trees, the tennis court, and the like. A spirit of both religion and cultured refinement fills her home, sanctified by memories and souvenirs of her honored parents. Her father's work as a minister is recalled throughout this section, he being founder of Confidence church and organizer of Sunshine Church. It was in Confidence church that she held her membership and after the memorial services in the home to its churchyard her body was borne to its last resting place. Precious is the memory of this daughter of the Christian home and church, both founded by her honored father.
Surviving are her sisters, Misses Lula and Margaret; her brother, Mr. Paul Cooper; and the following nieces and nephews – Miss Ruth McBath, Messrs. Ralph, Cecil, and Bartley McBath and George Cooper Winsor.
