By circa 1772, Asa m. Deborah Robinson, dau. of Isaac Robinson and Deborah Hebard (q.v., Hibbard), b. June 18, 1746 (not Apr. 15, 1752 as a triplet child of her parents as claimed by the Windham, Conn. Vital Records; see her memorial for explanation). Deborah (Robinson) Fitch was the granddau. of Peter Robinson and his 2nd wife Experience Lumbert, the patriarchs of the Robinson family at Windham, Conn. Deborah's paternal grandfather, Peter Robinson, was the grandson of Rev. John Robinson, pastor at Leiden, Holland of the Pilgrims that sailed in 1620 aboard the Mayflower and founded the Plymouth Colony.
Whereas the 1925 pub. Robinson Genealogy is so incomplete regarding the Deborah (Robinson) Fitch family, finding where Asa Fitch and wife Deborah Robinson are interred sets the beginning point for documenting their descendant family.
Whereas it is claimed that Asa and Deborah married at Windham, Conn., a diligent effort to find any reference to their marriage failed. In addition, it is claimed that all of the children were b. at "Windham," but none appear in the published vital records of the Town of Windham or in either the Windham or Scotland Society (Windham's 3rd church society) records.
On the other hand, on Mar. 28, 1784, "Deborah Fitch, wife of Asa" was admitted a member of the Mansfield, Conn. First Church, followed on Apr. 4, 1784 by the baptism of six children (in the order written assuming Hannah was the eldest): "Hannah, Asa, Elenor, Roxilena, Ethelinda and Isaac." An unnamed child of the family was bapt. at the same church, likely dau. Deborah, Oct. 12, 1788, but the last digit is stated to be blurred. In the meantime, on Mar. 8, 1785, "Deborah Fitch, wife of Asa," was admitted a member of the Windham First Church. From the foregoing and by tracing the death records of the children one can confirm by some form of record that most of the children were perhaps b. at "Windham," but may have equally been b. at adjoining Mansfield, Conn.
It should be noted that the baptism of the eldest six children are included in Susan Dimock's Vital Records of Mansfield, Conn. in the following baptism order: "Asa, Elenor, Hannah, Roxilanna, Ethelinda, and Isaac," The unnamed child is stated by Dimick to have been bapt. Oct. 12, 1789.
The Asa Fitch family first appears at Lebanon, NH in the 1790 federal census numerically as "21600." Asa then appears again in the 1800 census of Lebanon, NH as Asa Fitch, but in the 1810 census he and Deborah likely was enumerated as part of their son Isaac Fitch's individual enumeration at Lebanon, NH. Asa cannot be isolated at Lebanon, NH in the 1820 census, but he and wife Deborah may have relocated elsewhere with some of their children only to return or be returned to Lebanon for interment.
An initial outline of the known traceable children of Asa Fitch and Deborah Robinson follows.
• i. Hannah Fitch, b. circa 1772, purportedly d. in 1856 at Galway, Saratoga County, NY; m. by 1797, Dr. William Dewey, s. of Elijah Dewey and Abigail Martin, b. Mar. 9, 1769 at Hanover, NH. Ten children of the family.

Inscription
Mr.
Asa Fitch
Died May 31
1824 Aged 72
According to the Town of Lebanon's cemetery records, Asa was interred in the year 1824, confirming the missing (repaired) year of his death on his gravestone. Further, based on his recorded date of birth the word "Aged," one of the variations of the Latin term Ætatis suæ, was correctly used in his inscription. That is, on the day Asa died he was 71 years old, and Ætatis suæ (i.e., Æ, "Aged," in the XX year of his Age) 72.
