British Sailor and Musician. A common seaman on the HMS Bounty, he was blind and served as the ship's fiddle player. He took no part in the mutiny on April 28, 1789, and was kept on the Bounty against his will. When the HMS Pandora arrived in Tahiti to track down the mutineers, Byrne boarded the ship to report for duty...and was immediately clapped in irons. He miraculously survived the sinking of the Pandora on August 30, 1791, and a court-martial in England acquitted him. His subsequent fate is unknown to historians. (bio by: Bobb Edwards)
