James William Bost was the son of Nellie Oakcloney Bost and William Jefferson Bost. He was born in Huntsville, Madison Co., Alabama, on October 29, 1933. Nell and William Bost had five children. Thomas Jefferson Bost and Roy Junior Bost died in infancy. Robert Odell Bost, Nellie Mae Bost (married James Mathews) and James William Bost were their remaining children.

James joined the Air Force and remained enlisted until his death on November 20, 1964. James died at Wiford Hall USAF Hospital, Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas, USA. Cause of death listed on his death certificate issued by the state of Texas was: acute hypotension, pulmonary infection, septicemia and reticulum cell sarcoma.

Survivors included his parents, sister and brothers, wife and children.
