Lt. Colonel Richard K. Easley, USAF, ret., died Saturday, December 22, 2001, age 84, at Heartland Health Care Center in Orange Park, FL. Dick was born in Memphis, TN, August 8, 1917. He graduated from the University of Memphis, School of Law, received his LLB in 1941 and was admitted to practice by the Tennessee Supreme Court. In 1963 he was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court. Later he earned a BA from Rollins College and an MA from Florida Institute of Technology. He entered the US Army Air Corps as a civilian pilot in May 1942 and was commissioned in October 1942. He stayed on active duty until 1946, when he requested reserve status to join the legal department of Chicago and Southern Airline in Memphis. Later flew for C&S and American Overseas Airlines as a commercial airline pilot. He was recalled to active duty in 1951. His military campaigns included the American, Asiatic, Pacific, European, African and Middle East. Significant medals were, the Distinguished Flying Cross with one oak leaf cluster, Air Medal with four clusters, and the Meritorious Service Medal with four clusters. Dick was a Command Pilot who flew multitype planes, primarily C123s, and was a veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He retired at PAFB in 1975 and taught at Florida Institute of Technolgy as an adjunct professor in the School of Aviation. Dick is survived by his wife of 58 years, Genevieve (Carlisle) of Cocoa Beach, Brevard, FL; daughters, Anne Smith and son-in-law, Ray of Oakton, Fairfax, VA, Genevieve Gasque of Orange Park, FL, Melinda Chasteen and son-in-law, Jeffrey of Kaaawa, Honolulu, HI; granddaughter, Rachel Smith; grandsons, Cameron Smith, Michael Thomas and Matthew Thomas; a sister, Rosella Emison; and a brother, William Easley, both of Memphis, TN. Dick was buried in Forest Hill Cemetery, Midtown, in Memphis, TN, on December 26, 2001, with full military honors. Memorial donations may be made to Creative Care Center, 3300 N.
