Son of Samuel Basnett Duree & Elizabeth Jane {Harmon} Duree; Was first married to Martha Ann Reynolds on June 7, 1867; they had 3 children (Albert Caleb Duree; Eliza E. Duree; and Daniel Basnett Duree). Martha died of childbirth complications shortly after the death of the baby Daniel who died at age 1 day. John then married Elizabeth J. Montgomery on January 16, 1881. They had 6 children: Joseph Samuel & Erwin Elvin Duree (twins who would both die before 1900); Joe Gayley Duree; Mary Oleva Duree; John "Pete" Dow Duree; and William Donald Duree.
