American Folk Figure. The mother of Jim Williams, who was accused of murdering Danny Hansford, and played a tragic role in both the book and movie "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" about the trial. She supported him during the course of four long court trials. Mrs. Williams helped her son to continue his successful antique business while he was incarcerated by forwarding his calls to antique dealers in other parts of the country and world, who had no idea that Jim wasn't calling them from Mercer House. Mrs. Williams was buried beside her famous son seven years after his death in the family plot in the Ramah Church Cemetery on Highway 57 just outside Gordon, GA. She inherited Mercer House from Jim and left it to her Daughter, his Sister, Dorothy Williams Kingery.
