| Birth: | Mar. 14, 1823 | | Death: | Mar. 29, 1887 |  Civil War Confederate Brigadier General. Born in Worthington, Ohio, he raduated from the U.S. Military Academy 1843 and fought in the Mexican War as a artillery officer. With the outbreak of the Civil War, he volunteered his services to the Confederacy and was appointed Brigadier General for the Department of South Carolina in August, 1861. In 1862, he joined the Army of Northern Virginia and fought through the Peninsula Campaign. After he was wounded at Antietam, he commanded the 1st Artillery District, in North Carolina until March, 1865. After the war, he became a businessman and wrote about the war.
