Merrill A. Ditzler, 94, Mount Vernon, MO died Jan 7, 2007 Lawrence County Nursing Home in Mt.Vernon. Born Aug. 2, 1912, in Pearl City, IL. Merrill was an inquisitive person with for all things mechanical. For over 30 years he worked for and retired from Woodward Governor. He personally oversaw the installation of power generating equipment at hydroelectric dams all ovr the United States. "Curly", as his friends and family knew him, Harried Gertrude Hayenga in the 1930s. Gertrude passed away after a short time. He and his second wife, Marjorie Backus, shared nearly 50 years together. Margaret "Peg" Topley was his third wife. All of his wives preceded him in death.

He was the father of Dan (Linda) Ditzler Mount Vernon, Lorraine (David) Potts, Libertyville, IL, and Arlene (David) Noel, Rockford; grand father of eight; greatgrand father of 12; father-in-law to David Finkenbinder; sisters Lois Beisemeier and Gladys Pohill. Memorial service honoring Merrill A. Ditzler will be at 11 a.m. Saturday,april 14, in Second Congregational Church, Rockford. Interment will be in Pearl City.
